Day 06

Luang Prabang

Alms giving - City tour

To witness the morning alms-giving ceremony in Luang Prabang, an early start is required. Known as 'Tak Bat,' this unique tradition is a profound reflection of Laos' Buddhist faith. Every morning at dawn, monks dressed in saffron robes walk barefoot through the streets, carrying alms bowls to receive their daily sustenance from the local faithful. You are welcome to participate in this sacred tradition; your guide will be happy to discuss the protocol with you the evening before and can arrange for the food offerings upon request.

After breakfast, you will explore Luang Prabang often called a 'Museum Without Walls'—on a guided tour by tuk-tuk. Immerse yourself in the religious and cultural heart of Laos as you visit its most significant and beautiful temples, all of which are protected as UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Highlights include the magnificent Wat Xieng Thong and the National Museum, housed in the elegant former Royal Palace.

After lunch (at your own leisure), you will embark on a scenic boat cruise along the Mekong River to the Pak Ou Caves. The round-trip journey takes approximately two and a half to three hours. Along the way, we will stop at a traditional village to gain insight into the daily lives of the people living along the Mekong. You will return to town by late afternoon.

Day 07

Luang Prabang

Kuang Si Waterfalls - Village visit - Traditional Rice Farm (optional)

Today is dedicated to exploring the scenic rural landscapes surrounding Luang Prabang. Your nature excursion begins with an absolute must-see: the Kuang Si Waterfalls. The journey takes approximately 45 minutes, and along the way, we will stop at Ban Non Sa-at. Here, you will gain a deeper understanding of the diverse cultures of Laos, specifically the three main ethnic groups: the Lao Loum (Lowlanders), Lao Theung (Midlanders), and Lao Soung (Highlanders).

Upon arrival at the falls, prepare to refresh yourself with a dip in the turquoise natural rock pools. You will also have time to enjoy lunch at your leisure in this beautiful setting.

In the afternoon, you’ll have the opportunity to dive deeper into a theme that stays with you throughout your journey: rice! At the Living Land Farm, a community-run organic farm, you can look forward to many 'aha' moments as you become a true rice expert. In a vivid and authentic setting, you will be introduced to every stage of traditional rice production from plowing the paddies with a water buffalo to planting, transplanting, and finally threshing the stalks to harvest the grain.
